Enrollment in St. Helena Parish School District schools decreased from previous year

The only school district in St. Helena Parish suffered declining enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 1,093 students in the halls of St. Helena Parish School District schools, 7.6% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in St. Helena Parish was steady compared to the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 50.6% of them were boys, and 49.4% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were Black or African American, representing 90.9% of the St. Helena Parish School Districts total enrollment.

St. Helena Parish School District has a main office in Greensburg and is the only school district within St. Helena Parish.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students in Louisiana, which is worse than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.

The majority of Louisiana students were either white (48%) or Black (37%) in the 2021-22 school year.
