Steve Scalise, U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 1st district since 2008, posted a series of statements on social media regarding recent congressional actions and the legacy of Charlie Kirk.

On September 18, 2025, Scalise wrote, "Charlie Kirk was a man of faith, courage, and conviction. He was an inspiration to countless people across the globe. Tomorrow, Congress will pass a resolution honoring his life and legacy and calling on all Americans to commit to respectful debate and to uphold American values."

The following day, Scalise commented on the outcome of the resolution vote: "58 Democrats voted against a resolution that honored Charlie Kirk’s life, condemned political violence, and called for respectful debate. Disgraceful." This statement highlights partisan disagreement over the resolution.

On September 20, 2025, Scalise addressed legislative developments concerning government funding: ".@HouseGOP passed a clean CR. Shutdown Schumer and his Democrats voted to SHUT DOWN the government and defund the military for their RADICAL agenda of free health care for illegal aliens, plus $1.5 TRILLION in new deficit spending."

Scalise has represented Louisiana's 1st District in Congress since succeeding Bobby Jindal in 2008. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of the Louisiana state legislature from 1996 through early 2008. Born in New Orleans in 1965, Scalise resides in Jefferson Parish and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University.
