Steve Scalise, U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 1st district since 2008, posted a series of statements on his official Twitter account addressing recent political and public safety issues.
On September 23, 2025, Scalise commented on content moderation by technology companies: "Thanks to House Republicans, Google admitted the Biden administration forced them into censoring content. Good move by Google to reinstate the YouTube accounts they banned for political content. I look forward to all the new free speech advocates on the Left celebrating this."
The following day, September 24, Scalise addressed violence faced by immigration enforcement officers: "We’re praying for the victims and their families. Our brave ICE officers put their lives on the line every day to make this country safer, but they continue to face unprecedented violence. It MUST STOP. God bless the men and women of ICE."
Later that same day, Scalise made a statement regarding potential government shutdowns: "The American people should know: if there’s a shutdown, it’s because Democrats voted for it. Democrats are holding the government hostage to try to implement their radical agenda, putting their partisan wishlist ahead of the American people, our military..."
Scalise has represented Louisiana's 1st District in Congress since succeeding Bobby Jindal in 2008 and previously served in both chambers of Louisiana's state legislature. Born in New Orleans in 1965 and currently residing in Jefferson Parish, he is an alumnus of Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
