Steve Scalise, a U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 1st district since 2008, has used his social media platform to criticize House Democrats over recent government shutdowns and to commemorate the anniversary of a major terrorist attack.
On October 7, 2025, Scalise posted: "Who pays for the Democrat shutdown? YOU." He reiterated his criticism of House Democrats the following day, writing on October 8, 2025: "Every House Democrat has a voting card. 3 weeks ago, all but ONE used it to shut down the government. Now, some of them have buyers’ remorse as the American people suffer. The only way House Dems get bailed out is by urging their Senate colleagues to vote for the clean CR."
Scalise also marked the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas in Israel. Steve Scalise has served in Congress since 2008, succeeding Bobby Jindal. Before his tenure in Congress, Scalise served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1996 to 2008 and briefly in the Louisiana Senate in 2008. Born in New Orleans in 1965, Scalise is currently 57 years old and resides in Jefferson, Louisiana. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University.
