Steve Scalise, U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 1st district since 2008, posted a series of statements on social media in October 2025 addressing recent government funding votes and international developments.

On October 10, 2025, Scalise stated, "The facts don’t lie. Republicans voted 8 times to keep the government open. Democrats said NO — again and again. Now families and troops are paying the price."

The following day, he reiterated his position regarding Congressional votes on military pay: "Republicans voted to keep the government open and pay our troops 8 different times, and every time Democrats voted NO. Thank you President Trump for finding options to ensure our brave men and women in uniform won’t miss their next pay check while they serve our great country," (October 11, 2025).

On October 13, 2025, Scalise commented on developments in the Middle East: "What a historic and joyous day. After two years of being tortured at the hands of Hamas, all living hostages have been returned thanks to President Trump and his administration. We pray this is the beginning of enduring peace in the Middle East. @POTUS is the PEACE President!"

Scalise has served in Congress since 2008 after succeeding Bobby Jindal. He previously held seats in both chambers of Louisiana's state legislature before joining Congress. Born in New Orleans in 1965, Scalise resides in Jefferson and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University.
