Steve Scalise, U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 1st district, posted a series of statements on his social media account on October 13 and 14, 2025, addressing U.S. foreign policy and the ongoing government shutdown.

On October 13, Scalise commented on developments in the Middle East, stating, "Today is historic — not just for Israel, but for the entire world. Using peace through strength, President Trump accomplished what many before him tried and failed to do. He is THE peace president."

Turning to domestic politics on October 14, Scalise addressed the ongoing government funding impasse. He wrote, "It’s Day 13 of the Democrat Shutdown. Republicans passed a clean bill to fund the government. Schumer blocked it — demanding $1.5 trillion in new spending, benefits for illegal aliens, and cuts to rural hospitals. It’s time for Democrats to stop the games and end this insanity."

Later that day, Scalise continued his criticism of Democratic lawmakers regarding the government shutdown. He stated, "Who is to blame for the government shutdown? Just check the receipts. Republicans voted 8 times to keep the government funded and pay our troops Democrats voted NO 8 times While Democrats play politics and hold the government hostage, the American people suffer."

Scalise has served in Congress since 2008 after replacing Bobby Jindal. He previously held positions in both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Louisiana Senate. Born in New Orleans in 1965, Scalise is a graduate of Louisiana State University and currently resides in Jefferson.
