Steve Scalise, U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 1st district since 2008, posted a series of tweets on October 14 and 15, 2025, addressing political developments in Washington and commenting on recent events involving Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the late Charlie Kirk.

On October 14, Scalise criticized Senator Schumer’s political strategy, stating, "Chuck Schumer is terrified about his political future. He cares more about appeasing the radical left than he does about the American people."

Later that day, Scalise commented on an event honoring Charlie Kirk: "It was an honor to join @POTUS as he awarded Charlie Kirk the Medal of Freedom. Hateful political violence took Charlie from us, but his faith, love of country, and commitment to civility live on. May God bless Erika and the Kirk family." The tweet referenced the posthumous awarding of the Medal of Freedom to Kirk following his death due to political violence.

On October 15, Scalise further criticized Schumer's approach to ongoing government negotiations: "Chuck Schumer is holding the government hostage over his wishlist of radical policies: Taxpayer-funded health care for illegals $50 billion cut from rural hospitals $1.5 TRILLION in new spending g Time for Democrats to STOP the political games and REOPEN the government."

Scalise has served in Congress since 2008 after replacing Bobby Jindal. Before joining Congress, he served in both chambers of Louisiana’s state legislature. Born in New Orleans in 1965, Scalise currently resides in Jefferson and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University.
