House Majority Leader Steve Scalise appeared on Fox News' "Fox and Friends" to discuss the progress of the One Big Beautiful Bill, emphasizing its alignment with President Trump's agenda. Scalise noted that despite opposition from Democrat leaders, House Republicans are focused on delivering for families affected by what he described as "four years of Biden's failed policies." He highlighted commitments such as reducing costs at gas stations, securing borders, and eliminating unnecessary government spending.
Scalise acknowledged the challenges faced in advancing the bill but credited former President Trump for his persistent support. "Every step of the way, President Trump has been right there talking to our members," Scalise said. He underscored elements within the bill designed to benefit American workers, including no taxes on tips for service industry employees and tax exemptions for overtime work.
Addressing criticism from Democrats, Scalise expressed frustration over their resistance to proposed financial relief measures for lower-income earners. He claimed that "the Democrat Party is in disarray" and accused them of being out of touch with everyday Americans' needs.
Scalise also discussed efforts to combat wasteful government spending through significant budget cuts included in the bill. He stated that these measures would facilitate further tax reductions for working families. Despite some internal debate among Republican members regarding potential amendments, Scalise emphasized a commitment to passing this legislation before pursuing additional goals.
The Majority Leader criticized Democrats' approach during recent discussions in Congress, claiming their tactics were ineffective and unconvincing to the public. According to Scalise, Americans are seeking hope and optimism rather than continued economic struggles attributed to previous administrations.
As Independence Day approached, Scalise concluded with optimism about America's future under Republican leadership: "We're going to get it done."
