Steve Scalise, U.S. Congressman representing Louisiana’s 1st district since 2008, posted a series of statements on social media in August 2025 emphasizing concerns about crime and law enforcement in Washington, D.C., and across the nation.
On August 11, Scalise declared: "The crime and chaos ends now. Our nation’s capital must be a symbol of safety and strength to the country and the world. Congress will work with President Trump to restore law and order in Washington, D.C. Make D.C. Safe Again! "
Two days later, on August 13, he criticized Democratic leaders’ approach to public safety: "While Democrats ignore crime in their own communities, President Trump is stepping up to do what they won’t—protect our streets and keep Americans safe."
Later that same day, Scalise expressed support for Judge Jeanine Pirro’s stance on law enforcement: "Thank you @JudgeJeanine for having the backs of our brave heroes in law enforcement!"
Scalise has represented Louisiana's 1st District in Congress since replacing Bobby Jindal in 2008. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in both the Louisiana House of Representatives (1996–2008) and briefly in the Louisiana Senate. Born in New Orleans in 1965, Scalise currently resides in Jefferson and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University.
