House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has announced the winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Louisiana’s First Congressional District. Momin Mahmood, a sophomore at Destrehan High School in Destrehan, Louisiana, was awarded this honor for his artwork titled “Echoes of the Crescent City,” created using watercolor and ink.

Mahmood's piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, along with artworks from other winners nationwide. Leader Scalise commented on the significance of Mahmood's work: “Momin’s artwork beautifully expresses the pride our region has for our world-class culture and the joy we get from sharing it with the millions of visitors we host each year, especially for the Super Bowl! This piece highlights the jewel of the historic French Quarter, our iconic St. Louis Cathedral, with incredible detail and will showcase our state’s rich heritage for the many Capitol visitors from Louisiana and across the nation for the next year."

This announcement underscores an ongoing tradition where young artists from different districts have their works showcased at a national level.
