Steve Scalise, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Louisiana's 1st district since 2008, has shared several statements on social media addressing recent events and legislative efforts. Born in New Orleans in 1965, Scalise has been active in politics since his tenure in the Louisiana House of Representatives starting in 1996.
On June 14, 2025, Scalise commented on a violent incident involving political figures in Minnesota. He stated "Horrible news today of yet more instances of political violence with the shooting of Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and State Senator John Hoffman. There can be no tolerance of political violence and it must be stopped. Join me in praying for their families."
Two days later, on June 16, Scalise emphasized his fiscal stance with a statement about tax policy: "It’s simple: Washington should take less. You should keep more." He continued by expressing support for legislative action to reduce taxes: "We’re fighting to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill to put more money back in your pocket."
On June 17, Scalise acknowledged a visit from an influential figure to his home state, stating: "Glad @SBA_Kelly was able to visit Louisiana to highlight how the One Big Beautiful Bill puts more money in the pockets of Louisiana’s families, workers, and small businesses." He concluded with encouragement for action: "It’s time to get it done!"
