Today in Washington, D.C., House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) addressed the media alongside Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.), and Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (R-Va.). They discussed Republican efforts to support American families by reversing policies from President Biden's administration. Scalise described the One Big Beautiful Bill as transformative legislation for the middle and working class, highlighting its measures such as no tax on tips or overtime, preventing tax hikes, keeping energy production domestic, and securing borders.

Scalise spoke about cooperation with the Trump Administration over the past six months: “It's been a very busy first six months working with the Trump Administration to deliver critical wins for hardworking families across America." He emphasized successes including 31 bills signed or pending signature by President Trump that aim to reverse economic issues attributed to Biden's term.

Regarding legislative progress, Scalise mentioned appropriations bills: “That's why this week, we still have more bills on the House floor... The Appropriations Committee this week is taking up three more appropriations bills in full committee." He criticized past Senate dysfunction under Democrat leadership but praised current collaboration led by Majority Leader John Thune.

Promoting transparency was another key topic. Scalise asserted Republicans' commitment to informing citizens about recent legislation while countering Democrats' claims of unfair tax cuts and hospital closures. "The waiter and waitress in America who averages $32,000 a year is going to get about $1,700 more in their pockets," he stated.

Scalise also touched upon committee work addressing issues like Russian collusion investigations and efforts for transparency regarding Jeffrey Epstein's files. He accused Democrats of avoiding accountability: "For four years, Democrats hid and covered up the Epstein files."

In closing remarks, Scalise criticized what he sees as disarray within the Democrat party: "They're about to elect... a socialist mayor of New York City... But that's not where America is." Meanwhile, he lauded Republicans’ efforts under Speaker Mike Johnson’s leadership.
